Derry in Lockdown – 2020
Derry in lockdown during coronavirus / Covid-19 2020 is a sad scene but on the other hand it makes me proud that the people of Derry have clearly listened to the advice of the medical professionals and stayed at home. I thought it was important to document the streets of Derry during this time as the Coronavirus pandemic in Derry and across the world is a huge part of history.
According to Derry Now data sourced on Google’s location services show that Derry people have been sticking to lockdown and staying at home.
The pictures in the Gallery below show the streets in the town centre with many businesses closed and showing handmade signs on the doors and windows. One such sign on the Richmond Centres shutters reads:
Dear customers,
The health and wellbeing of our customers and staff takes top priority and we must look after each other in this difficult time. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 the Richmond Centre is closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we look forward to welcoming you back to the centre.
Stay safe and healthy.
Many of my clients are based in Derry especially the hotels and it is a sad sight to see the door closed. Lots of staff in the town have been put on the Furlough scheme during this crisis in an attempt to help businesses and I sincerely hope that the businesses of Derry can recover from this.
