A few months back I was contacted by Self Build Ireland to undertake an interior photography project of a house in Donegal, Ireland. The brief from Self build was excellent and required me to produce Interior Photographs of high enough quality to be published in their printed magazine which is sold all over Ireland.
The property to be photographed was a self build home in a stunning location in Buncrana, Donegal just past Ned’s point. I am a property photographer from Derry in the Northern Ireland so this project was only 20 mins drive from my home.
This is the home of Dawn and Declan Lambe at the perfect location in Donegal. I met Dawn on the morning of the Interior shoot and had been communicating with her via email in the weeks before to finalise arrangement for the day. Dawn is a business owner of a popular coffee shop in Buncrana called The Lily Rose and as you can imagine is kept busy. Dawn told me on the day that she had previously had properties in Ireland including Galway and Donegal but she had now settled here.
The home was built on a stunning location with sweeping vistas at the rear over looking the picturesque Lough Swilly. The home itself looks like a bungalow from the outside but in fact is a two storey home and is deceivingly spacious on the inside.

Interior Photography
Self Build Ireland sent a detailed brief of requirements for the Interior Photography including capturing images of the outside of the house.
Exterior Photography
Self Build Ireland required images of the front, sides and of the house. The images needed to show the house in context with the landscaping and views around it. They also asked for clear skies but as you can see… in typical Irish fashion we couldn’t get clear skies on the day. I feel this shows a true Irish rugged landscape and is authentic to the scenery.
Internal House Photography
The brief stated that Self Build required photographs of the living room, kitchen, dining if any, hall/entrance, one bathroom and one or more bedrooms. With opening doors in opened planed areas we could get to see more of the house.
In open plan rooms, I ensured to take as many angles as possible to cover all views including a frontal view of the kitchen.
Ground Floor
The opened planned L shaped kitchen is stunning with large windows over looking the amazing views of Lough Swilly. The living room is also located here again with large windows for amazing views all year round. You can see the connecting hallway with the beautiful red door and corridors leading to the utility room and bathroom. The ground floor is flooded with natural light due to the huge windows and was a joy to photograph.
First Floor
the master bedroom upstairs also took advantage of the perfect location with views over Lough Swill. I photographed the view through the thin window in the bedroom cleverly located to get the perfect view. The Kids bedrooms were full of Character and the owner Dawn informed me the kids helped design the room by picking colours, tiles for the bathroom and decorations.
