Our very own Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Derry has been named in second place in top 25 UK hotels by TripAdvisor in the annual travellers choice awards. The boutique hotel on Bishop Street in Derry has only been opened for less than a year and is already raising eyebrows right across the world.
DerryPhotos was lucky enough to be commissioned to photograph the interior and exterior of this beautiful boutique hotel last year. It all started when I heard on the radio that the old Northern Counties club was undergoing massive renovation and being transformed in to a luxury boutique hotel. I got back to the office and sent a hopeful email to the management team offering my interior design photography services. A few months later I got a call from Glenn to come meet him to discuss some potential photography work. After a tour of the hotel (still a building site at this stage) we agreed to do some photography work on a finished show room. I then met with general manager Ciaran who gladly loved the photographs and the rest they say is history.

I have seen and photographed the building as it developed from a building site to an award winning boutique hotel so I am over the moon for Ciaran O’Neill (operator of the hotel and president of the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation) and his team. They should be very proud of this achievement.
It is not often that you get to say you are the official photographer for one of the top hotels in the UK. I would like to thank the whole team and especially Ciaran, Glenn and Claire for welcoming me in to the hotel. It just goes to show that that one email can change your career.
I have since been back many times to socialise and eat out in the Gown restaurant and although I may be slightly biased I must say the food is excellent. Ciaran and the team are running a smooth operation here. I am sure the success and awards will continue to flow and this also brings great recognition to our wonderful city.

Although I have shot lots of weddings in Derry, Donegal and across Northern Ireland; I have yet to photograph a wedding in the Bishops Gate Hotel however I have just got a booking for a wedding this August in the hotel. Cant wait….
